Age is just a number, get it?

technically i am still twenty something.

i used to be not secretive about my age until .... i see what happen to a person who is older and discloses his/her age. tak payah elaborate lah macam mana dia kena kutuk kan? but enough for me to say that i hate that kind of comments and thus, i am now a changed person.

yes, i do not disclose my age to most people.

age is just a number, is not it? but to some people, it acts like a benchmark. when you do something that is sooo not your age, then it's a big no-no. a disappointment. a disregard.

boring betul, kan?

and worst thing is when someone actually knows your age, which turns out that you are older than that person is, that person decides not to follow any of your ideas, advices, etc etc, and that is simply totally irritating okey! kalau betul tak ok or not applicable idea/advices kita takpelah....but guess what....dia pegi curik idea kita and claim that itu idea dia, haaa ape cite tu?

Loya (lawyer) bukan hakim

semalam pwincess tak berapa sihat. diarrhea sampai last2 tu jadi pening kepala and eventually rasa loya. bukan loya yang 'tu' tapi loya pasal byk sgt liquid yang keluar. pastu dah sakit camnih, rasa nak tdo awal.....tapi takdela awal sgt pun. 10.45pm. masa dok tarik-tarik selimut tu, whine la kat encik Mon.

"Mon...sakit...loya...."

encik Mon jawab, "siannya chommm...."

then, pwincess ckp,"huhuhu ... nape ek loya....?"

encik Mon :"hmmmm....."

since tiada jawapan, pwincess pun jawab,"pasal bukan hakim!"

dah lama tu baru encik Mon paham....terbahak-bahak ler gelak....hee hee~

Giving Up?

The only real failure in life is when you do not realise how close you were to success when you gave up ♥

Macarons: adventure between macawrongs & macarights

on another note, i've carried out an experiment with macarons in my kitchen! yes ..... the famous french macarons: bloggers are blogging about them, macarons 101 classes are conducted everywhere and sellers are selling these morsels online as well as offline. they are the in thing now, in malaysia (but have always been the in thing in other parts of the globe).

we usually get our supply from whisk, empire gallery. a small piece is rm2, quite pricey for something that one can gobble up in a single gulp.

so i googled up the recipe, and was surprised to learn that macarons are made from 4 main ingredients. only 4!!! only a few ingredients, but the technique will determine whether the macarons are macawrongs or macarights. i was intrigued, and suddenly had the urge to make it though unfortunately my kitchen lacks a few important gadgets to make macarons. stubborn as i can be, armed with my faithful hand mixer, i was determined to try out baking these based on the recipes that i got from the internet.

i learnt that there are 3 methods in making the macarons; the french meringue, italian meringue and swiss meringue. italian and swiss meringue require boiling a few ingredients up until a certain temperature and since i don't own (yet, hopefully!) a candy thermometer, i was left with using the french meringue method.

piped and left to dry

Baking macarons can create dramas in the kitchen (unintentionally) for some bakers. Why? Because the main characteristic of a macaron is having little feet or skirt. There are a few other characteristics, google up and you can find many interesting blogs that show the anatomy of a macaron. Bakers would wait patiently in front of the oven, peeking every now and then to see whether the macarons have started developing feets or not. Well, that was me, for one. heh!

Alhamdulillah, mine developed feet without any trouble on that day, but another problem came up. according to the recipe, these were to bake at 350 F for 15-18 minutes. I lowered the temperature a bit from the recipe, but after 5 minutes, my macs started to look 'dark'. see, the problem with baking anything chocolatey is, it is difficult to gauge its doneness. ugh. so i waited a bit more, after 7 minutes or so, i felt it was totally not right (is there such thing as baker's instinct?), so i took it out. ohhh....damage has been done. my macs were burnt. huhu. sad, yes, so sad.
i proceed with the fillings. frustrated with the burnt macs, so i changed my plan, did not do the planned filling, but instead i made chocolate ganache. ganache made was quite little, since i only have 50ml of heavy cream ... or was it the recipe yields too many macs? it says; yields 15 filled macs but i was sure i got many, many more than that! perhaps i should make bigger macs next time. so anyway, i refrigerate my ganache for a while and piped it on top of my macarons.

my plain macarons tasted alright, they are tasty if i could say despite their 'tanned' look. thank god. and together with the filling, it tasted even better! i can't believe it :) . my Montey said it tasted like Whisks'. yabedabedu!

yes, a few of my macs have tits ... oops!

the insides. left them to mature for about 2 +/- hours since we can't beat the temptation to eat them all, hihi

so that was my adventure, making macs for the first time without attending classes nor equipped with the essential gadgets. will i make this in the future? yes! and i hope i could try other methods as well. i also harbour a dream to taste pierre hermes and laduree's macarons one fine day :)

i was surprised by the length of this entry since i was a bit lazy updating blog these days... but i hope i'm not boring any of you out there!

Papa's Birthday

Hi!

I'm backkk .... to blogging. a few things happened, trips here and there, in between sickness and social obligations, but I am just plain lazy to update the blog. I assume no one would be missing my absence - yes? no?

we celebrated my papa's birthday early March ... after he came back from his India trip.

Happy birthday, papa!
Semoga Allah panjangkan umur papa, dilipatgandakan rezeki dan dikurniakan kesihatan yang bagus yang berpanjangan dan diberkatiNya selalu!

Don't be caught up!

“I try not to get too caught up in thinking about the task ahead. I just do what has to be done. I have the belief in myself that what I’m doing is right. Then I let the rest happen.”

What we did last Saturday ...

Hubby's birthday fall on last Friday but he was being such an angel, asking me not to do anything for him as I had an exam the next day (Saturday). So after my exam ended, we went off to have lunch at Rakuzen. He thought of having Japanese since we had a very heavy breakfast - nasi kandaq line clear : all the way from Penang, courtesy of my bro :)

setting the mood right ...

the fish looked like it was caught off guard!

chopped tako (octopus) - waiting to be used in sushi or sashimi ...

getting ready with our chopsticks!

lets attack ... !! our appetizer - chuka lidako, california temaki and soft shell crab temaki

close up of chuka lidako (baby octopus) - my all time favourite. looked tantalizing in red

ahh ... our main dish - maru bento

there were sashimi, tempura, unagi kabayaki, sunomono and nimono

as well as an array of sushi delights...love the one with fish roe, they popped in the mouth!

ahhh ... selesai sudah!

Then we went shopping for a while .... and then it's time for dessert!

lovely tiny morsels

Then we went to PIL's house for another celebration .... wah wah wah~

Chicken mandy rice at Restoran Taif, KD that I mention in earlier post. BIL & SIL don't eat lamb, so we ordered additional lamb dish for ourselves

The next day, we had another celebration at my parents' as well! mom cooked nasi lemak and brothers brought buttered prawn and big apple donuts and I made this devil's food chocolate cake with cream cheese frosting and ganache. I finally use up the valrhona choc that I've been safeguarding all this while for a special occasion ... and it was a special occasion! and yup, yup, u can see the fondant decorations .... that's the main purpose of me splurging at cake connection and fondant experiments that I mention in my marshmallow post :)

the initial alphabets had been eaten up!
nway, ok lah kan for a first-timer, never attended any fondant classes...youuu!

my gift that was bought wayyy back in January

Hope you enjoyed your bday this year, montey!

May Allah bless us always and grant us the best supplication, the best success, the best knowledge, the best deed, the best reward, the best life ... and the best death ...

Ameen ...
