A Taste of Norway

yeay! mr hubs aka prince suda balik ... oh oh ohhh besnye.

and ape lagi yang bes tau ... malam pwincess fetch prince from the airport tu, we went to Norwegian Seafood Gala Dinner 2010 ... macam celebration gitu ... ahaks~

haa .... kat mana dinner tu?

mestilah kat norway.

tak caya?

haa ... tu basket picnic kitaorang. tapi bukan kat norway, tapi kat mandarin oriental. this spectacular event is held every year and as the name implies, the gala dinner promises a scrumptious spread of all types of seafood. walla...

when we arrived at the grand ballroom, mat salleh punye laa ramai. terasa pulak mcm bukan kat mesia, tu yang pwincess kata gala dinner kat norway tu, hehe. our invitation card says the event starts at 7.oo pm tapi janji norwegian sama je dengan janji malaysian, dinner actually started at 8.00 pm.

the dishes were stunningly served and the decor was magnificent ... haruslah extravagant pasal kat otel kan, but lets just check these out :

all these are real & fresh from the deep sea, man

i poked and put my fingers on its teeth, tajam gilos siyes tak tipu

a close shot of the monkfish

aww, not to forget the vikings' ship

once everyone was seated, the lights were dimmed and we were enthralled by the 'opening show' by mr MC. seems like the norwegians are proud of their vikings and seafood and thus, we were enlightened about the history of vikings, difference between the vikings from Norway, Denmark, Sweden and Finland.

oh ya, the vvips that were invited on that night's event were Datuk Dr Ng Yen Yen and the Norwegian ambassador. we were also introduced to the event's chef, Chef Frank Naesheim. Chef Frank explained that the buffet was the result of collaboration between chefs from Norway and Malaysia, blendng skills and traditions from the two countries.

The list of food is too long, by the way. there were cold dishes, hot dishes, dishes cooked according to Malaysian style, Japanese style, Western and of course, Norwegian style. Desserts pun toksah kata la .... the chefs were being transparent with the ingredients used for the dishes, yang ada wine wine tu, bleh awal-awal kita slash out from our list to eat kan ... ha jimat masa dan tenaga

*the following pictures were taken from cumi dan ciki because pwincess and prince were both kelaparan, dah tak dan nak snappy-snappy gambaq

orang2 dah start keliaran nak melantak makanan

fuh ... hot and sexy legs~

pilihan sushi malam tu...

wasabi mana leh tinggal beb

fresh kan? adoi yai

caviar ... memang terbaikkk!

malam tu memang salmon banyak giler ahhhhh, kalau tak puas2 gak tatau nak ckp pe

more and more salmons

live station - the gravlav carving station

emmph~

halus mulus susunan shrimps

did i mention that our entertainers for that night were the Alleycats?

ha ha.

okeh sori. pwincess bukan nak gelakkan alleycats tapi nak gelak bila teringat minah-minah salleh ni sume gelak terguling-guling once alleycats ni bukak mulut and nyanyi.

we were overloaded with seafood on that night .... we had unlimited servings of lobster, crayfish, king crab, mackerel, atlantic halibut, caviar, salmon etc etc etc. i tasted monkfish for the first time as well .... manis and best giler isi dia, despite its ugliness ...huhuhu. so don't judge the book by its cover yah kawan-kawan .... or in this context, don't judge the fish by its look wakekekeke~

so malam tu perut sangatlah kenyang .... nak bagi food tu turun, kitaorang pun lepak-lepak la jap. sambil minum coke, we were entertained by Mr and Mrs Foeling .... we were shown picture slides of Norway ... menarik but laidback sket ahh ...

okaylah .... ending of story ialah .... the pwincess lives happily ever after ....

Egg Tofu with broccoli and oyster sauce

kalau ada sape-sape yang rasa heran naper laa pwincess dee ni rajin la pulak main masak-masak dan upload gambaq lauk pauk dlm blog sejak dua menjak ni ... hihi ... jawapannye ialah, pwincess saje jek .... nak bagi prince kat bintulu tu jeles ... hehe ....

tetttt. jawapan salah.

prince selalu tanye arini pwincess makan tak .... kalau makan, makan ape ... risau dia, takde sape nak jaga makan minum pwincess kat sini. nak video call, kadang-kadang line tak clear. jadinye, pwincess pun update la dlm blog.

tapi, sebenarnye pwincess memang suke main masak-masak pun. ;p

okaylah meh kita tgk satu dish yang pwincess masak baru-baru ni ~

bahan-bahan:

cendawan kering
tauhu telur/tofu jepun
beberapa florets of broccoli
bawang putih
oyster sauce
tepung jagung + air
air

cara masak:
1. cendawan kering direndam dan bila dah kembang, hiris nipis-nipis
2. broccoli boleh distim atau direbus. tapi pwincess suka stim. kalau rebus, kang klorofil dia keluar plak. rugi, rugi...
3. tauhu telur/tofu jepun dipotong bulat-bulat. saiz tu agak-agak la jugak ye ... jgn nipis sgt pasal dia fragile
4. panaskan minyak ... i used olive oil
5. stir fry dulu kesemua tauhu telur and sesudah masak, kaut keluar dari periuk dan susun atas pinggan
6. dengan menggunakan minyak yang sama, tumis bawang putih sampai naik bau
7. masukkan oyster sauce. masak sebentar
8. tambah air. terpulang pada citarasa masing-masing, kalau suke kuah banyak, letak la air banyak-banyak. pwincess letak air rebusan udang
9. pastu masukkan campuran tepung jagung + air untuk pekatkan kuah
10. masukkan cendawan kering

to assemble:
1. susun steamed broccoli keliling pinggan
2. letak tauhu telur kat tengah-tengah pinggan
3. tuang mushroom and oyster sauce atas tauhu telur

dah siap!

dah masak ni kira kalau tak masak lauk lain pun dah ok because it is a balanced meal, you get source of protein, carbohydrate and a bit of fat all in one dish.

Tonight's menu is kerabu udang and sawi kecik with mushroom and oyster sauce.

Initially i wanted to make kerabu suhun macam served at vichudda tuh but the recipe that i have, uses squids ... so i googled away and i found this. it doesn't use suhun and there are a few ingredients that i don't have in hand but projek mesti diteruskan... this is my first time eating this and tersangat la sedap mak nyah....nak kena simpan resipi ni...

pwincess memang suke ape2 yang ade daun kesum+bunga kantan+serai +daun limau purut ...and pwincess doesn't mind pun eating those raw bawang merah in this dish hokey ... fuh pecah rekod~

cooking for one

pwincess is home alone for the whole week as mr hubs is away (for work) and parents are as usual, holidaying and this time their destination is perth.

but anyhow, the good news is, i get to conquer the kitchen! hahaha (evil laugh) .. !!!

so, i've done a bit of cooking experiments here and there since the kitchen is all mine, yeah baby.....
this one i got the recipe from dayang jack. as usual, i forgot to copy the recipe for future ref ... huhu, but i didnt follow the recipe to a T ... biasalah ... degil piang ....

but if i remember it correctly....here's how i did it:

1. steam tofu for 10 minutes
2. heat the oil and tumis garlic, shallots and ginger (all these are readily pounded at my
home, so i used about a teaspoon or so of each)
3. then i add sambal belacan - about 1 tablespoon

4. stir it to avoid hangit and then add a tblspoon of oyster sauce and kicap lemak masin habhal
5. add a teeny bit of sugar into wok
6. add in dried mushroom (soaked earlier)

7. once cooked, pour sauce onto the steamed tofu. sprinkle sesame seed, fried shallots and daun saderi.

this one is simple and easy peasy dish ... taken frm myresipi

Bahan-bahan ( 2-3 org )

  • 150 gm taugeh
  • * 2 sb air panas
  • * 1/2 sk serbuk pati ayam
  • 1/2 sk kicap pekat
  • 1 sb kicap manis
  • 1 1/2 sb sos tiram
  • 1 sk minyak bijan / minyak bawang putih
  • sedikit lada sulah
  • secubit garam (sekiranya sos tiram yg digunakan tak masin)

Cara-cara

  1. Celur taugeh, jgn lama takat 1 min jer. Toskan airnya dan ketepikan
  2. Satukan bahan bertanda *. Sekiranya buat nasi ayam lg sedap gunakan kuah sup. Ambil 2sb sebagai ganti air panas.
  3. Satukan bahan bertanda * dan bahan yg lain, siap sos. Tuang sos keatas taugeh celur tadi.
  4. Sebelum dihidang taburlah dgn hirisan daun bawang, lada merah dan bawang goreng.

this apple and cucumber salad recipe i got from dr adamo's book - diet for O blood group.

50 g green apple, 50 g cucumber - dice

a box of mini sunmaid raisins
4 tbsp of oil - i used 2 tbsp olive oil

2 tbsp honey - i used 1 tbsp

hohoho .... i still get my desserts despite being alone at home ... hihi. got the recipe from rima

This one is from mat gebu. pandai dia ni masak-masak tau.

ok, that's about it .... lets see .... what should i cook for lunch today? i'm thinking of having sup ikan jenahak and steamed broccoli, how's that??
