Brunei Sungkai 2017 : Pho Hoa Restaurant

Though it is already 9 Syawal, hope it's not too late to put in this entry on sungkai that we had at Pho Hoa Restaurant last Ramadhan. Actually we had just discovered this vietnamese cuisine restaurant. Before this, everytime we crave for pho noodle, we would head to Times Square, there's this stall in the food court that serves vietnamese food (pho noodle). To be honest, the noodle there is just so-so and the rest of the food are either finished already or they are not selling anymore. Based on our google search, that's the only place in Brunei that sells pho noodle ... so, not much choice for us, then.

This restaurant is located in Kg Kiulap and the Ramadhan buffet is $15.90 for adult and $9.90 for child. They change their menu daily which is kind of great, takde lah orang naik muak kan. We expected a full reataurant that night, but turned out to be just 2 groups were dining in including us.

From our observation, the menu spread is divided into 3 sections; the main course, vietnamese food and the dessert/beverage. The main course are steamed rice, fried noodle, soya sauce chicken, vietnamese grilled fish (but looked and tasted nothing different from the usual grilled fish), pakchoy mushroom, sambal squids, steamed prawns and pumpkin soup. The vietnamese spread consists of Beef/Chicken Pho, fresh and fried spring rolls while the dessert/beverage consists of salad, fruits and coffee/bandung.

Beef pho noodle. Sangat sedap!

I really love its Beef Pho that I only eat that, that night! It is free flow, but really, how many bowls can you gulp down after fasting the whole day ? The fresh and fried vietnamese spring rolls are also yummy, my kids ate those non stop, haha!! However, the main course was just so-so.

Would come again insya Allah for Beef Pho and spring rolls selagi kedai tidak ditutup hehe!

Brunei Sungkai 2017 : Kimchi Brunei - All You Can Eat Buffet

25 Ramadhan 1438
20 June 2017

Nak dekat akhir Ramadhan barulah nak put write up on Brunei Sungkai ye ... hahaha ... takpa, better late than never!

On the first day of Ramadhan this year which fall on Saturday, selepas berhempas pulas menyiapkan birthday bash for my boy at his kindy dan jugak siapkan order kuih, we decided to reward ourselves with iftar at somewhere nice ... somewhere we have not tried the food yet. Drum rolls ---- we decided to go to Kimchi Brunei Restaurant at Regent Square, Kiulap!

For starters, we were served yummy Korean side dishes such as Kimchi, fried anchovies, marinated bean sprouts and spinach. The rest of the 'all you can eat' menu must be ordered from their waiter'waitresses.

all you can eat menu

For the BBQ selection, we ordered everything from the menu - Lamb Bulgogi, Beef Bulgogi, Beef Teriyaki, Slice Beef Short Ribs, Chicken Teriyaki, Spicy Teriyaki and Sesame Ginger Chicken. They also have seafood assortment such as scallop, mussel, prawn and squid.  Luckily we ordered everything the first time because they all came in just 1 plate and quite a long time to reach our table. Dah tu nak tunggu daging masak pulak kan .... barbecue lah katakan ... memang mengajar kami erti SABAR. Mula-mula tu lagilah ... api grill tu waiter bukak yang paling slow .... tunggu punye tunggu ... dah kenapa daging ni taking a long time to cook ...sekali check ... padanlah ... mcm ni habis terawih pun tak habis-habis makan lagi.

Someone is enjoying eating his grilled beef wrapped in lettuce leave

Anyway, their Seafood pancake, gimbap and seaweed soup adalah tasty. For dessert antara menu yang dioffer ialah Pat BingSu, fruit platter dan Ice Cream. Of course we ordered all and they all come in single serving.

Their Ramadhan Sungkai comes at $28.90 per adult and $14.90 for children below 12 years old.

Alhamdulillah full and happy faces

Brunei Sungkai 2016 : Pondok Sari Wangi Jerudong Seafood

Assalamualaikum!

I've been away too long and made several attempts to blog but they only ended up in drafts :(

Something huge happened in my life early this year and made me so demotivated to do almost anything.

Well, anyway, how fast time flies, isn't it? Thought I just blogged about that Bubur Cha Cha that I made during Ramadhan and that was already one year ago. Last 2 days (18 June 2016), we drove up to Jerudong and checked into Star Lodge Hotel. It was Saturday, and already late afternoon. After we had stretched out our legs, we got ready for our sungkai. We decided to try the Sungkai Buffet at Pondok Sari Wangi Jerudong Seafood, which was very near to our hotel.

The location of the restaurant is very strategic, it is at the Jerudong Park food court, across the Jerudong theme park and oh by the way, we just discovered that McDonalds just opened their door across the foodcourt. There is ample parking and the Surau is just adjacent to it. The restaurant is filled with fine ornaments and luxurious furnishings. From the main door, on the right side, the dining area is arranged in long, straight position with rainforest paintings on the wall; while on the left side of the restaurant there are VIP and private function rooms.

Looking posh

Appetiser is Tom yum seafood

There's the steamed white rice as well as fried egg rice

ooohhhh

yums!

Sambel daging and lumpia

somehow I like this despite it tastes a bit different from our usual masak lemak pucuk ubi

Birthday celebration at 1 Market by chef wan

Penatnye type...last2 ghaib. Ni malas nak gune blogger apps nih...laptop pulak tgh tak sihat and nmpk mcm mmg takkan sihat balik...tu yg lama x blogging tuh...hmmph.

Anyway, Encik mon treated me to a dinner buffet at 1 market by chef wan for my birthday this year. 1 market by chef wan is the first ever restaurant opened up by the celebrity chef and it is located at plaza singapura.

It got me very excited. Initially i thought the restaurant concept was somewhat similar to marche's,but it's the typical buffet style with several food stations.

When we arrived, there was a long queue. Luckily we made our reservations earlier. There were so many choices of food but i really enjoyed the cold seafood range and since it's dinner, the oysters were there too. Ada alaskan crab, poached salmon and so many more!

my first encounter with this siput....

We didnt know what the texture should be like, since it was the first time we eat it.,,,isi nya pecah2 dan susah sgt nk kua dari shell. Later we discovered in batam that the texture shouldnt be like that...

Little button also enjoyed a variety of food that night...

I also adore the kerabu station. The kerabu sotong is to die for!love it love it. I also love the sambal belacan here.

There are also live stations where you can place your order and the chef/personnel will prepare it for you. One thing though, the person manning the spring roll station was so.... Slow that we had to wait quite some time for our spring rolls ...

The restaurant is located at level 4 and the nursing room, washroom is just nearby and a surau is provided.

Us- digesting the food...

Thank u so much mon,love you~

Colmar Tropicale, Bukit Tinggi

27 Oct 2013

We were supposed to let the steam out and relax at Fraser's Hill on a weekend but luckily I made a phone call to the caretaker and found out that there was a problem with water supply at the resort.

So then, came Plan B. Plan B was daytrip to Colmar Tropicale, Bukit Tinggi.

We arrived at Colmar around 10.45 am and the weather was just perfect...not too hot and breezy.

Little button was excited and kept pointing his finger to everything :)

When it's time for lunch, we headed to our favourite restaurant that serves the best pais patin we ever tasted....but to our dismay, the eatery was closed. Even Pak Usop also closed. A quick Google search directed us to here:

Go Bang Maju Patin Tempoyak

The service here is slow but the patin tempoyak is tasty. Some of the waitresses do not seem to speak or understand standard malay language ... so that was quite troublesome.
